Subsidies for the digitalisation of companies

What is the Digital Kit?

This is an initiative of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation that is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, the Digital Spain 2025 agenda and the SME Digitalisation Plan 2021-2025. This initiative is funded by the European Union Next Generation EU and has a budget of €3,067 million to invest in the digitalisation of SMEs and the freelance sector and boost their digital transformation.

Who can apply for these subsidies?

Freelancers and SMEs in Spain with up to a maximum of 49 employees. You must meet a series of basic requirements, such as not having any debts with the Social Security or the Spanish Tax Agency.

This grant is not for start-up companies. They must be registered in Spain and in operation for at least 6 months before applying for subsidies for the digitalisation of companies. And they must be registered in the Census of Entrepreneurs, Professionals and Withholders of the State Tax Administration Agency.

Other requirements that companies must meet in order to be eligible for these digitalisation subsidies are:

  • Not to be subject to any of the prohibitions set out in the General Law on Subsidies.
  • Not be subject to an outstanding recovery order following a previous decision of the European Commission.
  • Not being a company in crisis.
  • Not having exceeded the €200,000 limit for public subsidies.

To apply for digitalisation subsidies for companies in the digital kit you must pass a Digital Level Maturity assessment. This is a test and is available on the Acelera Pyme platform. It consists of 13 simple questions.

The only legal way to apply for this subsidy for the digitalisation of companies is through a legal representative or an authorised voluntary representative. And only through the automated form available at Red.es e-Office.

At the time of writing this article, about twenty companies have entrusted Nextport to represent them before the administration in order to carry out all the necessary procedures for their concession.

What do they subsidise?

The adoption of technological solutions for their digitalisation. The subsidy should be used to procure technological solutions through digitalisation agents in order to optimise enterprises.

What type of subsidies are they?

They are non-refundable or non-repayable grants. They are not loans, so repayment of the amount granted is not required.

What is the deadline for applying for subsidies for the digitisation of digital kit companies?

You can apply now. The deadline opened on 15 March for the first segment of companies with between 10 and 49 employees. The deadline is 15 September 2022 at 11 a.m. or whenever the initial funds of EUR 500 million are used up. So if you are interested, you should apply as soon as possible.

The dates for the following segments are still to be confirmed. It is estimated that it will be between June and July for microenterprises with between 3 and 9 employees and between September and October for the freelancers and companies with less than 3 employees.

The maximum amount of these subsidies for the digitalisation of companies is 12,000 euros. These are divided into different categories or segments, which are listed below, along with the maximum amount for each one. It is important to bear in mind that you can take on as many digital solutions as you need, until the €12,000 limit is reached.

In these cases, the maximum amount to be received is 6,000 euros, and several of the solutions described here can be selected.

Digital entrepreneurship subsidies for women’s digital entrepreneurship

These subsidies for the digitalisation of companies aim to help digital entrepreneurs to reduce the gender gap in this area. It is an advance loan granted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation.

Next-Tech Fund

These are grants for the development of innovative high-impact digital projects and investment in growth companies. Its beneficiaries are Scale-ups growing companies with a minimum ticket over €3 million and Start-ups with investments of less than €1 million.

Agroimpulso

Its objective is to stimulate and promote the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises in the agri-food sector and rural areas. These grants are provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and will be managed and administered by ENISA to support technology-based business projects that base their activity on the generation of new products, processes or services..
